In his delusions of grandeur, Barack Obama believes he accomplished much as America’s 44th president.
But there’s one thing he was consistently most proud of doing, or at least thinking he had done–bringing America closer to the Muslim world.
You’ll recall that one of Obama’s first big events abroad was a speech at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, intellectual heart of the Sunni Muslim world.
From the time he was first elected and up until that speech, the Arab Muslim world saw Obama as a natural ally, many even believing him to still be a fellow Muslim (Obama was born to a Muslim father, and in the Muslim world, that means Barack Hussein Obama was himself a Muslim, too).
But, oh, did things go downhill quickly.
From misreading Egypt’s anti-authoritarian revolution to squandering America’s deterrence when Syria used chemical weapons, Obama’s blunders in the Middle East quickly piled up.
Still, Democrats surely thought that Donald Trump, the man who insists on “America first,” could never possibly be as popular in the Middle East as Obama, even at his lowest point.
If they did think that, they were dead wrong.
From The Daily Express:
DONALD Trump is more more popular with Middle Eastern leaders compared with former president Barack Obama because of the current leader’s desire to attack first and ask questions later.
The stark admission from Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri, suggests that the rapturous welcome that Mr Trump received during his recent tour of the Middle East was genuine.
Mr Hariri blasted Mr Obama for his “naiveté” during his tenure as American president and the gap between his “inspirational rhetoric” and his actions.
Clarity, he claims, and the hope for a more decisive approach to Arab problems is the reason why he and other Arab leaders prefer Mr Trump.
The Middle East is an overwhelmingly Muslim region, but the leaders are willing to overlook Mr Trump’s Muslim ban, as long as he gets the job done.
What a tremendous humiliation for Barack Obama.
